Art After the Post-Chicano Movement

like many before
this tale begins
with the problematic prefix
"post"

and because of "post"
a community divides
into two camps:
those who are declared "passé"
(a.k.a. the transformative aztlan
of chicano artmaking)
and
those who are "relevant"
to the western global art market
(a.k.a. the institutionalized
slick commodities
of post-chicano artmaking)

upon hearing this
the infinity lab became confused
for no one had told them
the chicano movement
ended

so sometime in the summer of 2008
and in a quest to decide for themselves
where they stand in the debate
the infinity lab took a trip to l.a.c.m.a.*
to see the controversial exhibit**
that pitted Chican@ vs. Post-Chican@

all afternoon
they looked at the beautiful artwork
read all the placards
and reveled in the fact
they were amidst a l.a.c.m.a. building

and then it happened
that fateful moment when dr. hueso
found out he already belonged to a camp

at least according to l.a.c.m.a.

right there in the catalog he bought
was a photo of him and his colleague
yes it's true
los antropolocos became
an archeological representation of the past
without their knowledge

and now we return to the present
at the centro cultural de la raza

in the spirit of "misappropriation"
and institutional critique
the infinity lab creates
this irreverent altar of uncredited images
so you can decide
who's passé and who's relevant

for they are on a mission to end
the fetishized era of "post"
that has plagued the last decade
and
begin the era of this new millineum:
X-STREAM CHICAN@

once again it is time to prove
the movement continues

El Arte después del Movimiento  Post-Chicano
Una instalación de medios-mixtos

Como muchas otras
esta historia comienza
con el problemático prefijo
"post"

Y debido al "post"
una comunidad es dividida
en dos campos:
aquellos que son declarados "passé"
(también conocido como el aztlán transformativo de la realización del arte chicano)
y aquellos que son “relevantes” para el
mercado de arte global occidental
 (también conocidos como ingeniosas mercancías institucionalizadas de la realización de arte post-chicano)

al escuchar esto,
the infinity lab se hallaron confundidos
ya que nadie les dijo
que el movimiento chicano
había terminado

por lo que, en algún momento durante el verano del 2008, en una búsqueda para decidir por ellos mismos su ubicación
en el debate
the infinity lab viajaron al  l.a.c.m.a.*
para ver la controversial exposición **
que enfrenta  Chican@ contra Post-Chican@

Toda la tarde
contemplaron hermosas piezas de arte
leyeron todos los letreros
y se deleitaron con el hecho de encontrarse
dentro del edificio del l.a.c.m.a.

y después ocurrió ese
fatídico momento en que el dr. hueso
se  dio cuenta que ya pertenecía a uno de los campos,

al menos según el l.a.c.m.a.

justo ahí, en el catálogo que compró había una foto de él y su colega
sí, es cierto
los antropolocos se volvieron
una representación arqueológica
del pasado sin saberlo

y ahora volvemos al presente
en el  centro cultural de la raza

dentro del espíritu de "malapropiación"
y crítica institucional
the infinity lab crea
este irreverente altar de imágenes sin crédito
para que tú puedas decidir
quién es  passé y quién es relevante

porque ellos están en una misión para terminar con la fetichizada
era del "post"
que ha plagado la década pasada y el inicio
de la era de este nuevo milenio:
X-STREAM CHICAN@
Una vez más es el momento de demostrar que el movimiento sigue
